Tropical Depression Agaton killed 40 people in the Philippines

 Tropical Depression Agaton , which struck the southern and central Philippines have killed 40 people , the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management ( NDRRMC ) reported .

Five people were reported missing , three in the southern province of Compostela Valley and one each from the province of Zamboanga del Norte and Davao Oriental .

A total of 65 people were injured in the disaster , said the NDRRMC Executive Director and Office of Civil Defense Administrator Eduardo del Rosario said Sunday.

Among the 40 deaths , nine were killed in the province of Davao Oriental , Compostela Valley Province ( 8 people ) , Province of Dinagat Islands ( 7 ) , Agusan del Sur ( 5 persons ) , Agusan del Norte ( 3 ) , and Surigao del Norte ( 3 people ) .

Then , in Misamis Occidental two were killed , while in the province of Davao del Norte , Zamboanga del Norte , and Misamis Oriental of each one person was killed , said Del Rosario .

More than 587,115 people have been affected by depression in Zamboanga Peninsunla , Northern Mindanao , Davao and Caraga regions . Of these , 33,388 families or 161,808 people were staying in 436 evacuation centers .

Initial losses caused by damage to infrastructure and agriculture reached 313.78 million pesos ( 6.97 million U.S. dollars ) in Northern Mindanao , Davao and Caraga region alone , he said , as reported by Xinhua .
