The Pentagon said Monday that a Russian aircraft were " provocative and unprofessional " have been around the U.S. destroyer located in the international waters of the Black Sea at the end of last week .
The incident comes amid growing heat of relations between Moscow with Western countries due to a number of Russian economic sanctions imposed against Ukraine .
" On April 12 , the Su - 24 aircraft belonging to Russia several times flying at low altitude while approaching USS Donald Cook the vessels conducting operations in international waters west of the Black Sea , " said Pentagon spokesman Col. Steven Warren .
" The plane did not respond to the warnings of Donald Cook . Event ended without incident after about 90 minutes , " he said .
" Russia's actions were provocative and unprofessional contrary to violate a number of international protocols and agreements regarding the interaction between the two militaries previously agreed , " added Warren .
Warren said that the Russian aircraft " looks not armed . "
