Scientists Warn Ethics NASA Space Travel

A group of NASA scientists said on Thursday ( 3/4 ) , without complying with the minimum safety requirement , every space mission be dangerous to astronauts .

American space agency - NASA eventually plans to send humans to an asteroid and Mars . But a group of America's leading scientists say , now every space mission becomes too dangerous , based on the minimum safety requirements of NASA . Engineering capabilities and understanding of the long-term effects of exposure to cosmic radiation will not reach sufficient progress in the next five years to change that assessment .

After a study of long -term space travel space , which is sponsored by NASA , the expert panel of the National Academy of Sciences says NASA should consider the ethical standards when designing long -term missions for the future .

In an open letter , they said that NASA should not send humans to travel beyond low-Earth orbit that lasts more than 30 days without complying with existing health standards and rules be violated only in rare circumstances and simple .

They present six ethical principles pertaining to space travel which should be adhered to .

First of all of them ; prevent loss for astronauts , from impaired vision , loss of bone mineral , radiation exposure and the psychological impact of long -term space travel .

Also , the space missions should provide benefits to the community while balancing the potential benefits with the risk of danger .VOA
