President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said this Wednesday (9/7) when visiting troops in Slovyansk Ukraine, the former rebel stronghold city of the pro-Russian.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko determined to reclaim areas that are still controlled by rebels in eastern Ukraine, but said government forces will refrain.
Poroshenko talk when visiting the troops in the town Slovyansk Ukraine, the former rebel stronghold in eastern Ukraine.
He said there will not be, in his words, "armed clashes in the streets" in the city of Donetsk. He called pro-Russian rebel in the city "is just a nuisance" for residents there and the only way to move forward is through peace, disarmament and amnesty.
Russia and Ukraine said a cease-fire through negotiation is still possible, although some political analysts say Russia's strategic goal is to prolong the conflict.
Rebels also have refused to lay down weapons and blow up bridges and checkpoints towards Donetsk in preparation for battle.
Ukraine accused Russia of supplying arms to the rebels, but Russia denied. Russian officials want an unconditional ceasefire. BBC
