UN Climate Conference Trying to Avoid Deadlock

UN negotiations on an agreement to prevent climate change enters the final day Friday.

But it remains unclear whether rich countries and poor can overcome differences over who should be responsible for reducing carbon pollution.

The division of the emission reductions have been debated for a long time.

Developing countries in the conference in Lima, Peru that has long argued that the rich countries should bear a greater burden.

But Secretary of State John Kerry Thursday said more than half of global emissions that cause the warming of the earth come from developing countries. He said they also must act.


Negotiators from 200 countries seek to achieve progress before the crucial summit in Paris next year, when countries wish to adopt a new global climate treaty. (VOA)
