Volkswagen's expansion into the ASEAN market
German automotive company Volkswagen AG is rumored to have submitted plans to build a factory in Thailand .
Reuters reports that Volkswagen is done in order to minimize the distance of their rivalry with the Japanese brands , especially Toyota Motor Corp .
According to Reuters , which cites two sources , VW wants to take advantage of tax-free program for investors automotive sector in Thailand .
The program has attracted investors such as Ford and General Motors .
VW is not willing to comment on the news .
On the other hand , the brands of Europe and the United States at this time following the Japanese brands such as Toyota and Nissan in producing cheap and fuel-efficient cars .
The news that VW will set up factories in Thailand first reported by Bloomberg .

According to IHS Automotive , vehicle sales in six major countries of ASEAN ( Association of Southeast Asian Nations ) , namely Indonesia, Malaysia , Philippines , Singapore , Thailand , and Vietnam could reach 35 percent rise in 2020 .
