Ebola outbreak kills 80 people in Guinea

Until Tuesday ( 1/4 ) , a total of 122 suspected cases of Ebola and confirmed , including 80 deaths , have been reported in Guinea , said the World Health Organisation ( WHO ) said on Tuesday .

" While in Liberia itself no transmission , infected people are citizens of Liberia who have visited Guinea and then been infected . There were seven cases of suspected and confirmed among four people who died , " said Gregory Hartl , WHO spokesman , at a briefing .

" The case in Sierra Leone has been tested negative , " he said .

When answering questions about the extent of the spread of the virus , Hartl confirms the current Ebola outbreak " is smaller compared to other outbreaks in the past , such as in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 1990s . " Largest outbreak of Ebola , according to records , has killed 400 people .

Hartl said the deadly virus , with a mortality rate up to 90 percent , spread of villages in southeastern Guinea up to the capital, Conakry , reports Xinhua - Reuters monitored here on Wednesday morning .

He asserted , " The current priority is to stop the spread of the chain and track all contact . "

WHO has warned the neighboring country of Guinea in order to improve surveillance for the disease in line with the fever that resulted in bleeding caused by viruses , especially along the land border .

So far , the WHO does not recommend travel restrictions and trade in connection with the outbreak.

Guinea capital , Conakry , on Sunday night ( 30/3 ) most recently reported fatalities due to Ebola fever .

Guinea government has assured the people that the Ebola outbreak , which spread on February 9 , was " under control " .

Alberta government spokesman Damantang Camara said on Sunday , an outbreak of Ebola " has to be controlled " with the support of international health organizations .
