Singapore proposed the establishment of a crisis center for the Asia Pacific region . Later , the crisis center will coordinate post - disaster operations and humanitarian areas that bear the impact .
The idea was first proposed in the Singapore meeting in Hawaii between the defense ministers of the United States and Southeast Asia . The idea of the establishment of a crisis center in the city-state last Monday again proposed by the Minister of Defence of Singapore , Ng Eng Hen .
He emphasized the importance of the establishment of coordination centers in disaster-prone Asia-Pacific region . As many as 70 % of all natural disasters worldwide occur in this region . In the last two years alone , natural disasters - such as hurricanes and earthquakes - has claimed around 30,000 citizens of the world and cost $ 300 billion
In a press conference after a speech at a security forum in Kuala Lumpur , Ng claimed the reason the filing of the coordination center was simple: " When a disaster occurs , there is no single country has the resources [ adequate ] , if large -scale disasters such . " .

His proposal appears in the middle of the search MH370 . The plane took off from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing it disappeared from the radar on March 8 . Mission is still underway , involving dozens of ships and military aircraft from 26 countries .
" Yes , the incident response world MH370 is a clear illustration of the expanding role of the modern military , " said Ng .
He highlighted how the forces of nature can destroy or cripple infrastructure . When that happens , the military became the only organization capable of responding in a short time by providing assistance and rescue . However , Ng said , the mission after a disaster requires assistance of the international community and regional military .
" Training the military is important . However , we also have to build architecture capable of responding to natural disasters in a better way . The response was especially needed right after the disaster , when the role of coordinating the rescue is very significant , "said Ng in his speech .
