Saudi officials say a suicide bomber has killed two border guards and wounding guard all three in an attack near the Iraqi border.

According to the Interior Ministry, the attack on Monday (5/1) morning in the town of Arar was initiated by the offender and a "terrorist" shot a border guard. The Saudi border guards then returned fire, killing one person before the perpetrator detonated explosives on his body. No one immediately claimed responsibility. Investigation into the incident is underway.

The ministry did not specify how the attacker was involved in the attack at dawn or motive of their attack. Border in a remote desert area was adjacent to the province of Anbar, Iraq, which is the scene of fierce fighting between Iraqi forces and militants of the Islamic State, ISIS.

Mustafa Alani, a security analyst who is close to the Iraqi Interior Ministry of Saudi Arabia, called the event an ISIS first attack against the kingdom.

Saudi border with Iraq which is longer than 800 kilometers, which are separated by barriers of land and fencing, as well as monitored cameras and radar, never attacked mortar bombs fired from a distance, but rarely targeted attack.

Early last month, Saudi Arabia arrest 135 people, accusing them of planning to sabotage the security of the kingdom, to smuggle arms into the country and help raise funds for terrorist groups.
