Van den Bleeken prohibited undergo euthanasia

Frank Van Den Bleeken had received permission to commit suicide with the help of a doctor.

A male prisoners in Belgium are serving a life sentence for rape and murder are not allowed to commit suicide with the help of a doctor.
Justice Minister Koen geens said he respected the advice of the doctors who deal with Frank Van den Bleeken, which are not able to control sexual violence needs.

However geens decided Van den Bleeken will be moved to a new psychiatric treatment center.

Van den Bleeken request for euthanasia-or suicide with the help of others-granted by the Belgian Federal Euthanasia Commission in September last year after Van den Bleeken proposed for several years.

Belgium is one of three countries that allow euthanasia for people who suffer from deadly diseases. Last year Belgium even allow euthanasia for children.

But Van den Bleeken case is the first involving custody since legislation helps death passed 12 years ago.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Justice told the BBC that the doctor who plans to perform euthanasia on Van den Bleeken on January 11, has resigned not not want to get involved again in that case.
Van den Bleeken, 52, was convicted in the 1980s for a series of sexual assault and murder.

He said rather die than spend all his life in prison.

"I was in a cell for 24 hours a day. That's my life. I do not think people here. What should I do? Do I have to sit here and waste time? What's the point," said Van den Bleeken in a TV interview on year 2013. (BBC)
