German military plane crashed

The military-owned Tornado fighter crashed near the German city of Koblenz in western Germany, on Thursday, but both pilots survived thanks to the ejection seat, police said.

Koblenz police said the two pilots suffered minor injuries and did not require medical care in hospital after the incident.

The accident left debris on the main highway which is then closed.

There is no other victims in the accident.

The plane crashed in the hills about 50 kilometers west of Koblenz. Army officers and firefighters rushed to the scene.

The local daily Rhein-Zeitung published photographs of the pilots stuck in tree trunks with their parachutes and reported that the aircraft crashed in the woods around 20:30 local time after taking off at the nearby military base.

Police could not provide an estimate of the cause of the accident, such as quoted by AFP.
