Malaysian authorities indicted a student and arrested three other people, including opposition politicians and Thamrin Gafar Tian Chua.

Tian Chua of the Justice Party were arrested on Thursday (05/23/2013) when he was at the airport. Thamrin Gafar is a politician of the PAS. They and an activist Haris Ibrahim was arrested on suspicion of inciting.

As a student activist Adam Adli is already charged. He's been charged for calling for protests against alleged election fraud.

Adam Adli, 24, was arrested after speaking in a public forum politics following the elections on 5 May. National Front coalition won the elections.

However, the results achieved BN is the worst and the most stringent since Malaysia's independence in 1957.

The government says the elections are free and fair, but opposition parties cried foul.

Adli was arrested after he repeatedly told the forum that the students "took to the streets to take back our power," as quoted by AP news agency.

He pleaded not guilty to charges of sedition in Kuala Lumpur court and released on bail on Thursday (23/05/2013).

If convicted, he faces a maximum three years in prison.

Sedition laws abused

The activists say Malaysia is used sedition laws to silence government opponents.

"Law (incitement) it can be abused," said Fadiah Nadwa Fikiri, Adli's attorney, told AFP news agency.

"(The law) is a violation of freedom of assembly and freedom of income."

In a statement on Wednesday (22/05/2013), mansuai rights group, Amnesty International called for Adli "unconditional release" and said the sedition law "is applied over the years to suppress political opponents."

Prime Minister Najib Razak said last year that the government will seek to remove the sedition law, and replace it with the National Harmony Act.

However, until now the law of sedition is still valid.
