Medical journal The Lancet released a list of the countries with the highest obesity rates in the world and Indonesia is ranked 10th .

The number of people in the world are categorized as being overweight has surpassed 2.1 billion , up 875 million from 1980 , according to the Lancet .

And none of the countries that successfully address those issues .
The U.S. , China and Russia have the highest obesity rates and the UK is the country with the highest obesity rates in Western Europe , according to a study involving 188 countries.

Experts say the increase is due to the " modernization of our world " , which resulted in " no physical activity at all levels . "

Researchers around the world led by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation ( IHME ) at Washington , in a study which claimed to be the most comprehensive .

The scientists analyzed data from surveys , such as the WHO , government websites and review " all articles " about the number of people who are obese or overweight in the world .

Study says rising obesity rates in the world , despite the growth in developed countries still remains the highest .

The study called for " immediate global action " to combat the risk factors such as excessive caloric intake , lack of activity and " active promotion of food consumption by the industry . "

Prof. Ali Mokdad , from IHME , said no country is fighting obesity because this is a new problem .

" It takes time to see the success stories , " he said .
The study also reported more women with obesity than men in developing countries .

Obesity rates are higher for women in developing countries because they have to do double duty , taking care of family and work , said Prof Mokdad , so no time for weight control .
