Red Shirt leader shot , Riot Continues in Thailand

A leader of the pro - government ' Red Shirts ' , Kwanchai Praipana was shot twice by unknown assailants in northern Thailand on Wednesday ( 22/1 ) .

A pro- government leader who has been leading shot and injured in northern Thailand , while the Thai government set the capital Bangkok in an emergency to address the increasing political violence .

According to police , the Red Shirt leaders Kwanchai Praipana shot twice by unknown assailants in the shooting of a vehicle that runs on Wednesday ( 22/1 ) , at his residence in the province of Udon Thani , Northeast Thailand .

The incident followed several attacks against anti-government protesters , the demonstrations Wednesday start the ninth day in a row in the capital .
The violence was sparked determination of emergency for 60 days in Bangkok and surrounding areas , although there was no sign of security forces to quell the protests .

Although police step up inspections at checkpoints near the camps , there are no large military presence . The authorities also imposed a curfew or ban political rallies , as permitted under the emergency decree .

Army chief Prayuth Chan - ocha said on Wednesday that his forces would not steer the country towards violence . But he warned that if the situation can not be handled , the army will step in and handle it . | VOA / MJF
