21 killed , 26 injured in attacks in Iraq

A total of 21 people were killed and 26 others wounded in attacks in Iraq on Sunday ( 2/2 ) , police said .

A suicide bomber blew up his car , containing explosives , in the base of the paramilitary group of government support , the Sahwa , in the city of Baiji , about 200 kilometers north of the Iraqi capital , Baghdad . Eight people were killed and 18 others wounded , said a police source who declined to be named told .

Five members of the Sahwa were among the dead and 10 of the militia members were among the wounded , the source said .

Sahwa militia , which is also known as Awakening Councils or Sons of Iraq , consisting of several armed groups , including some powerful group of anti -US Sunni . They directed their weapons to the al Qaeda network of international organizations such as murder indiscriminately against Sunni and Shia communities .

Meanwhile , three farmers were shot dead by unidentified armed men in an orchard near the small town of Balad , some 80 kilometers north of Baghdad , the source said .

An officer in the Iraqi Army were killed and two policemen were wounded in a roadside bomb attack in Balad Ruz Region , 30 km north of Baquba , capital of Diyala province , police said , as quoted by Xinhua on Monday morning .

On Sunday morning , four soldiers were killed and another wounded when gunmen using silencer guns attacked their checkpoint in a village near Kirkuk , said a local police source told Xinhua .

In Diyala Province in Eastern Iraq , gunmen entered a Sunni village near the town of Sadiyah , about 60 kilometers north-east of Baquba , killing five people , including a woman , and wounding three others , said a police source .

In another incident , a roadside bomb exploded near a house and wounded two civilians in southern Baquba , about 65 miles to the northeast of Baghdad , the source said .

Iraq faced the worst riots in years . According to the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq , as many as 8,868 Iraqis , including 7818 civilians and civilian police personnel , were killed in 2013 , which is the most number of fatalities over the years .
