One killed in unrest in the camp of asylum seekers in PNG

An asylum seeker was killed and at least 77 people were injured in the riots this week in the second detention camp in Papua New Guinea ( PNG ) is used to process asylum seekers , Australian immigration minister said on Tuesday .

One person is in critical condition due to injuries in the head and another suffered gunshot wounds during the clashes that erupted after asylum seekers urged to outside center to shelter in a small island in PNG .

The installation is part of a tough stance Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott on asylum-seekers but has been criticized that attitude with respect to concerns about human rights .

" Our sympathy goes to those who accommodated - the friends and family they have been in the installation as well , " said Immigration Minister Scott Morrison . It refers to asylum seekers .

" If the person chooses to move from the center , then they certainly make themselves facing greater danger and rude behavior are in the atmosphere , " said Morrison told reporters in the city of Darwin , Northern Australia , as quoted by Reuters .

Canberra tough stance against asylum seekers , including processing outside of Australia and a ban on veiled for those who come by boat to stay in Australia , has been criticized by the United Nations and other groups as illegal and inhumane .

Australia uses Manus Island detention center and another on a small island in the Pacific , Nauru , to process prospective refugees sent there after they tried to come to Australia . They often use unsafe boat after paying people smugglers in Indonesia .

Refugee advocates said long detention , which coupled with the lack of explanation as to where and when to settle asylum seekers , increasing the number of mental health problems in the installation .

In January , inmates in detention centers in remote areas of Australia , Christmas Island , sew their lips as part of a hunger strike to protest their treatment .

Morrison said the latest unrest erupted when prisoners tried to break through the fence around the detention center and clashed with police PNG . It was not clear whether other people involved in the riots .

The incident occurred after a breakthrough effort of installation in Manus Island on Sunday night ( 16/2 ) , when 35 asylum seekers had fled . A total of 19 people were injured and eight people were arrested in the incident .
