An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale shook the city of Banda Aceh, on Tuesday (22/01/2013) at around 05:22. The earthquake that occurred simultaneously with the arrival of the dawn call to prayer could make the most of the panic gripped residents of Banda Aceh.

Based on the information submitted by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG), the epicenter was at 5.49 degrees northern latitude and 95.21 east longitude, or about 15 kilometers southwest of Banda Aceh. The depth of the quake was recorded 84 kilometers below sea level.

Some residents of Banda Aceh poured out of the house when the earthquake struck. At that time, the atmosphere in the city was still dark, some people are still falling asleep, and others are preparing to perform the dawn prayers.

"The earthquake this morning feels tight and a bit long. Vibration is somewhat harder than the earthquake on January 10, 2013 and then," said Rizkika (29), a resident of Lampriet, Banda Aceh.

Besides in Banda Aceh, the earthquake was also felt residents in Pidie, Lhokseumawe, to East Aceh.
