42 African refugees drowned in the waters of Yemen

A total of 42 African refugees drowned on Sunday night ( 9/3 ) off the coast of Yemen , after their boat capsized in the Gulf of Aden , while 30 people on the boat can be rescued , Yemeni Defense Ministry said in a statement .

The accident happened a few miles from the beach in Bir Ali Shabwa Province , South Yemen , and the Yemeni coast guards find 42 dead bodies the African refugees , 30 people were saved , and still looking for other survivors .

Yemeni parties not mention the nationality of the refugees . However , local media reported that there were hundreds of Africans drowned to death every year , when they were trying to reach Yemen by boat filled with passengers .

African refugees were trying to go to Yemen through the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea , in the hope of reaching the Gulf states or Europe .

More than 62,000 asylum seekers , refugees and illegal migrants arriving in Yemen from the Horn of Africa in 2013 , according to data from the refugee agency of the United Nations ( UN ) .
