US Noted A
New Record Number Of Foreign Students
About 900,000 international
students studying at American universities and colleges,higher numbers than
ever before. About half of these are students from
Asia,especially China.
WASHINGTON —
United States recorded
as the country with the most foreign students compared
toother countries in the world, and foreign student
population increases with the stable.
The latest report from
the Institute of international education (Institute of International
Education) stated that in the academic year 2013-2014, more than 886.000 foreign
students are enrolled in institutions of higher learning, up 8
percent from the previous year. The number of foreign students in
America recorded double that of ten years ago. The trend triggered in
large part due to the coming of Chinese students who
wish to earn a college degree.
"In the United
States learning how to focus more on class discussions and your
opinions and the ability to argue with others, such as professor or
teacher, and the atmosphere is what I want to feel,"
said Eric Xu, a Chinese student who is studying at
Columbia University in New York.
While China's ever-increasing number
of students, academic year this time recordedan increase in the
number of students from Kuwait, Brazil, Saudi Arabia and
even Iranare significant. More than 4 percent of students
in US institutions of higher learningare foreign students. Educators say the
presence of foreign students in U.s. schools areprofitable,
and about 4,000 colleges and universities in the United States could
hold a lot more.
"We know
that international students provide an important contribution in the
classroom and campus United through their global perspective and internationalexposure to American
students who might not have the opportunity to study abroad,"
said Rajika Bhandari, Vice President of the Institute of International
Education.
Students from
abroad has also been a plus for the u.s. economy.
"This year, for $ 27 billion
in revenue at the State level and nationally, through
thepayment of tuition, residence and other fees," said Evan Ryan, Deputy
Foreign Ministerfor education.
The Department of
Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of education also promotes studyabroad for U.S. students.
"We believe that studying
abroad can enhance the ability of the American competitionby
allowing US students learn the language as well as regional
and global perspectiverequired to be successful in the 21st
century," said Ryan.
About 290.000 U.S. students studying
abroad for an academic year 2012-2013. Europe,in
particular the United Kingdom, becoming the main purpose of American
students, but the latest report "Open Door" shows that
more current students chose to study incountries of Latin
America and China.
"China became
the number five country that accommodating U.S. students, more
than14,000 people," said Christine Farrugia from the
International Institute of Education.
While schools in
the u.s. continued to attract young people from all over the world,student
exchange with other countries has also increased. (VOA)
