Government working to improve vocational education in graduate university campuses with emphasis polytechnics and community colleges. Local governments are required to participate and increase vocational higher education.



"The establishment of higher education is the responsibility of the central government. However we encourage the local government also took part to develop higher education, especially the vocational. If it was a serious local government, the main requirement provide first land ready to be developed into the campus," said Minister of Education and Culture Mohammad Nuh said after inaugurating Polytechnic Indonesia Maritime Affairs (Polimarin) in Semarang, Central Java, on Monday (01/14/2013).

Present at the event include Central Java Governor Bibit Waluyo and the Director General of Higher Education Kemendikbud Djoko Santoso.

Noah said, in Central Java, there are only two government polytechnics. The East Java already has six polytechnics. "If the local government saw the need to establish polytechnics to support the development of the region, can be filed," said Noah.

According to Noah, the development of vocational education in the area can quickly advance the area. Expected higher vocational education can be spread across multiple cities / districts according to the potential areas concerned.

Djoko Santoso said the new Polimarin received a diploma level three students for the first batch. Development of a polytechnic as one technical unit under the Directorate General of Higher Education is likely to support the advancement of higher vocational education in the maritime field.

"Previously, the UPT, Polimarin been reliable as a marine training. Given the government's program to develop vocational education, why would not this be politkenik maritime UPT," said Djoko.

In the first class starting September 2012, Polimarin received 105 cadets / students. There are three programs that opened the nautical, Teknika, and commercial shipping and port management.
