Elected directly by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Halimah was unanimously elected a fellow colleagues in the House to occupy the prestigious post. Aside from being the first, Halimah also became Muslim woman politician with the highest office in the land that is 75 percent ethnic Chinese population that inhabited it.

In his first official statement to Channel News Asia, Halimah said that he would apply himself kepempimpinannya style. His leadership style will be supported by long experience in the political world for two decades.

"I will work hard to ensure that the discussion in Parliament goes well, controlled, and efficient. Also I will establish a good relationship with the existing members of the House of Representatives," he explained.

First elected as a member of the House of Representatives in 2001, representing the constituency of Jurong Halimah today. After last year's election, Halima was appointed as Deputy Minister of Community Development, Youth and Sports. He also spent 34 years of his life in labor organizations and actively participate in Singapore's Malay community.

Halimah while maintaining its simplicity though elected as chairman of the House of Representatives. He said that he would remain in the apartment that was occupied for 30 years.

Politicians who is a graduate of this law replaces Michael Palmer. Palmer resigned last month following a scandalous affair with a staff agency People's Association
