Oribe Peralta single goal by bringing Mexican victory over Cameroon 1-0 in World Cup Group A match on Friday (13/6).

The second-half goals by striker Oribe Peralta brings Mexican victory over Cameroon 1-0 in World Cup match on Friday (13/6), the second full game in the major sports gala in the world.

Peralta scored from close range without resistance in the 61st minute after Cameroon keeper Charles Itandje brushed kick players Giovani Dos Santos of Mexico.

Group A was played in the pouring rain on the Arena das Dunas in Natal city in northeastern Brazil. In the first round, Dos Santos came close to scoring twice but disallowed for a questionable offside decision.

The decision came a day after the referee gave Brazil a controversial penalty kick that put the home side a 3-1 win over Croatia, in the opening match of the World Cup.

Mexico is now the series with Brazil on top of Group A with three points each, but Brazil has a better goal difference with a 3-1. Mexico, ranking 20th in the world according to World Cup organizers, FIFA, managed to beat Brazil and won the gold medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England.

Also Sunday, defending champion Spain against the Netherlands in a Group B match in Salvador. Previously they've faced in the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa, where Spain beat the Netherlands 1-0 in extra time.

Chile will compete against Australia in the other group B in Cuiaba. VOA
