Traces are found in the other world, studied rock samples taken from Apollo
Researchers find evidence of something that falls into the earth billions of years ago and formed the Moon.
Analysis of the moon rocks brought back by the Apollo astronauts showed traces of "planet" called Theia.
According to lead researcher, Dr. Daniel Herwartz, of the University of Goettingen, no one has found definitive evidence for this theory, until now.
The researchers believe their discovery confirms a theory that the moon was created by a devastating collision.
The research is published in the journal Science.
The prevailing theory since the 1980s is the moon appears as a result of a collision between Earth and Theia 4.5 billion years ago.
Theia named from the goddess in Greek mythology who said Theia is the mother Selene, goddess of the moon.
He is thought to have been destroyed and produce debris that blend with the earth and melt into months.
This is the simplest explanation for the formation of the moon and matched with a computer calculation.
The main drawback of this theory no one has ever found evidence of Theia in lunar rock samples. BBC
