United States Consider Options for Help Iraq Attack Iraq Islamic State Movement


U.S. President Barack Obama said his national security advisers preparing a "series of options" for U.S. aid to the Iraqi government that is facing Islamist militant attacks.

Speaking at the White House on Friday, President Obama said the U.S. action will become clear in the "coming days." He said there would be no U.S. troops were sent to Iraq.

The President said the militants who have seized several parts of Iraq is a threat to the Baghdad government and people throughout the country, and is a threat to a wide range of U.S. interests. He said divisions among Iraq's leaders have led to the current crisis.

Obama says U.S. aid to Iraq should be tailored to the efforts of "serious and sincere" from Iraqi leaders to work together and put aside differences, and to strengthen their security forces. He said that without the efforts of political, military aid short term there will be no result.

In a lightning strike this week, militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, taking over Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, and advanced up to 90 kilometers from the city of Baghdad.
