Indonesia opened diplomatic relations with Nauru, one of the countries in the Pacific.

Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia (PTRI) to the United
Nations in New York this weekend to mention the opening of diplomatic
relations was officially done with the signing of the Joint Communique
by the Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador and Permanent
Representative Desra Believe Nauru to the United Nations, Ambassador Big Marlene Moses, Permanent Mission in New York in the House on Friday.
On
the occasion, Ambassador Moses expressed his happiness over the opening
of diplomatic relations between the two countries, especially
considering that Indonesia has become a friend of the Pacific countries.
"One
of the most remembered and cherished by the peoples of the Pacific
while Indonesia is leading the discussion on climate change resolutions
at the UN, which eventually resulted in an agreement in accordance with
the interests of the Pacific countries, particularly in the context of
global warming as a threat to the existence of these countries , "said Mr Moses.
Meanwhile,
Indonesia's ambassador Desra Percaya said that so far the two countries
have interacted and worked together on a number of issues at the UN and
other international forums.
"With
the opening of diplomatic relations, the more wide-open opportunity for
both countries to strengthen and deepen cooperation in various fields,"
he said.
With the opening of diplomatic relations with Nauru, Indonesia has diplomatic relations with 183 of the 193 UN member states.
Parliament in 2010 had approved the establishment of diplomatic relations with 21 UN member states.
As
a follow up the issue, disclosed Permanent Mission in New York, in 2011
has made the opening of diplomatic relations with nine countries,
namely Mauritania, El Salvador, San Marino, Montenegro, the Dominican
Republic, Niger, Sao Tome and Principe, Antigua and Barbuda, and Bhutan .
During the year 2012, the opening of diplomatic relations with Botswana has done, Tuvalu, and Nauru Haiti.
