A statement issued by the palace did not mention the details or the conditions of King Abdullah.
Saudi stock market fell sharply as news about the health condition of King Abdullah broadcast by state television.
Some parties said the king's health condition is one indication of succession in Saudi.
This succession could affect the stability of one of the largest oil producing country in the world.
Arabia uses a system of absolute monarchy and did not choose the parliamentary election results.
King is the sole holder of power, with authority among others ratify laws and appoint ministers.
King Abdullah, who is 90 years old, ruled Arabia since 2005.
He reportedly underwent back surgery in October 2011 and November 2012 in Riyadh, after a year before undergoing two operations are the same in New York. (BBC)
