Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa on Monday called for concrete cooperation between the countries of Asia and Europe ( ASEM ) which have a real impact for people in both continents .
As a manifestation of this call , the first plenary session of Foreign Ministerial Meeting ( PTM ) to 11 Asia - Europe Meeting ( ASEM ) in New Delhi , Marty called for raising the support of the international community , especially the countries of ASEM to typhoon -stricken Philippines Haiyan .
" Indonesian encourage ASEM countries not only provide a statement of sympathy , ASEM should be able to take concrete steps to help the Philippines , " Marty said , as quoted in an official statement the Foreign Ministry in Jakarta on Monday night .
According to Marty , concrete steps that are needed to help the Philippines will be in line with the collective agreement ASEM to support coordination and greater collaboration in disaster management .
"The Indonesian government has prepared concrete assistance as needed given the Philippine government , " said Marty .
In addition , the PTM ASEM forum 11 entitled " Bridge to Partnership for Growth and Development " it , Marty also encourage concrete ASEM cooperation in achieving sustainable development ( " sustainable development " ) .
" As an inter - regional organizations , ASEM can add value and complement a variety of regional and global cooperation issues related to sustainable development , " said Marty .
Mary explained that sustainable development is essentially realized through an optimal balance between economic growth ( " growth" ) , social equity ( " social equity " ) and a sustainable environment ( "environmental sustainability" ) .
" In concrete terms , sustainable development can be achieved for example by facilitating trade and investment , connectivity development to encourage economic growth , as well as support for Small and Medium Enterprises to ensure social equity , " he said .
PTM to the ASEM - 11 will also be a discussion of the various issues that are expected to boost economic growth and sustainable development as well as a variety of non - traditional security challenges .
ASEM is a forum for dialogue among countries in Asia and Europe that consists of 20 Asian countries and 29 European countries plus the European Commission and the ASEAN Secretariat .
