Prohibition buy energy drinks

Prohibition buy energy drinks

A supermarket in the UK , Morrisons , prohibits children under the age of 16 years to buy high- caffeine energy drinks .
Staff in some branches of the supermarket will be asking customers to prove their age with identification .

This prohibition appears to concerns high content of caffeine in energy drinks that might have an impact on children's health .

Restrictions apply to certain brands that have more than 150mg of caffeine per liter .

This will affect the sale of Red Bull energy drink that has caffeine 320mg , Monster ( 338mg ) and Relentless ( 320mg ) .

Morrisons is a major retail store in the UK that prohibits first energy drinks to minors .

Claire Johnson Morrisons spokesman said : " We understand the concern over the potential impact of high- caffeinated energy drinks to young people and take steps to address this . "

" Bad idea "
" It is not the responsibility of the supermarket . 's Dependent parents to decide whether they allow it or not . "

The trial of this ban will be in stores in Glasgow , Dorset , Leeds , Cheshire , Staffordshire and Suffolk with a view to applying it more widely .

Earlier this month , a campaign to encourage large retailers to crack down on the sale of energy drinks for kids launched in Edinburgh .

Sales and promotion of high caffeine drinks such as Red Bull has been banned in schools in the area .

But the kids still can easily buy them from the supermarket despite warnings on cans stating that the product is not recommended for children consumed .
Aaron ( 17 ) , James ( 16 ) , and Will ( 16 ) from Liverpool think prohibition is a " bad idea . "

Speaking after spending their energy drinks , the teenagers in London , questioned how supermarkets will enforce it .

They said : " I think it's a bad idea . How they watched it ? Very easy with a fake ID . "

" It is not the responsibility of the supermarket . 's Dependent parents to decide whether they allow it or not . "
