Deaths cause by Diabetes
Increases, follow by stroke and cancer
VIVAlife - According to a comprehensive analysis of
health data in 188 countries, deaths from pneumonia dropped 52 percent since
1990-2013. But at the same time, a number of diseases, including diabetes and
stroke even cause more deaths in Indonesia, compared to 1990.
You know, what are the main causes of death in our
country? The answer is of stroke, heart disease, and tuberculosis were recorded
up to 38 per cent, of the total deaths in 2013.
In Indonesia, diabetes and stroke claimed more lives in
2013 when compared to 1990, with each record number of deaths increased by 135
percent and 126 percent. While deaths from lung cancer also increased 124
percent between 1990-2013.
"We managed to record steady progress in reducing
mortality due to some diseases. It shows how the government's commitment to
continually improve public health conditions, "said Soewarta Kosen, a
physician and senior researcher of the National Institute of Health Research
and Development, Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia.
Globally, people live 6.2 years longer, compared to 1990,
with life expectancy, increased until the age of 72 years in 2013. The women
showed an average increase was higher (about 6.6 years) than men (5.8 years).
Improved health conditions, reduced fertility, as well as
changes in the age pattern of life in the world, accounts for the increase in
human life expectancy worldwide.
"However, we are still recorded an increase in
mortality in children, as well as deaths caused by various other conditions.
These data are very important for us, to understand existing conditions, as
well as the achievement that has been achieved. Also to provide direction in
reducing mortality in the future, "said Soewarta.
