110,000 people have been killed in the conflict in Syria

 More than 110,000 people have been killed in the conflict in Syria since March 2011 to Saturday ( 31/8/8 ) , says a human rights watchdog , on Sunday , a day after a suspected poisonous gas attack near Damascus that shocked the world .

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the death toll since the revolt that has lasted 29 months it has now reached 110 371 people , with at least 40 146 civilians were killed , including nearly 4,000 women and over 5,800 children .

The group , which relies on data from a network of activists , doctors and lawyers across Syria , said 21,850 rebel soldiers were also killed .

On the side of the regime , the group reported that at least 27 654 deaths in the army , 17,824 pro - regime militia and 171 members of the Shia group Hezbollah , Lebanon , which sent fighters battle with the Syrian army .

The group counted 2,726 other unidentified people who were killed in combat throughout the war-torn country .
