City Chivilcoy say beauty queen contest encourages an unhealthy obsession for physical beauty.

Chivilcoy city in Argentina became the first city in the country that prohibits the beauty queen contest.

City government statement says that the contest is degrading to women and encourage violence against women.

The council said the beauty queen contest encourages an unhealthy obsession for physical beauty, and encourage diseases such as bulimia and anorexia.

Chivilcoy beauty queen contest, which is in the state of Buenos Aires, will be replaced partly by competition carnival mask.


Last month a local agency that monitors discrimination in Argentina called for the abolition of the beauty contest because of the high number of attacks on participants of this race across Argentina. (BBC)
