New US Sanctions Ignore Russia and the European Union

US President Barack Obama has imposed a ban on extensive
trade in Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula through an executive order
prohibiting the export of US goods and services and the main block imports of
Crimea.

Russian states historically entitled to the Crimea and
has ignored the new US sanctions imposed against Russia because it annexed the
territory.
Russia's Foreign Ministry on Saturday (20/12) said the
sanctions will not force Russia handed over Crimea Crimea as a "historic
and integral part of Russia."
US President Barack Obama has imposed a ban on extensive
trade in Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula through an executive order
prohibiting the export of US goods and services and the main block imports of
Crimea.
White House statement on Friday (19/12) mentions that
order "to give clarity to the American attitude of American companies
doing business in the region." The statement also said Obama's actions to
show that Americans "will not accept Russian occupation" of the
Crimea.
Crimea is the first former Soviet republic, but in 1954
made the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. Crimea remained part of Ukraine
when the country gained independence as the breakup of the Soviet Union.
Trade ban that includes sanctions against 24 people and
companies that are known to s upport unrest in eastern Ukraine. Russian
parliament last April decided to annex the territory, despite protests European
Union and the United States.
Steps America followed a similar move this week by the
European Union and Canada.
President Obama on Thursday signed into law, allowing
additional sanctions against Russia for supporting sustainable pro-Russian
uprising in eastern Ukraine. (VOA)
