For the umpteenth time, the Jakarta area was flooded again. Thursday (01/17/2013), Jakarta floods hit several areas, including downtown at the Hotel Indonesia roundabout and Jalan MH Thamrin.

The rain which flushed for a few days and breadth of the area flooded making some circles comparing with flooding floods this time in 2007. However, whether or not, in terms of meteorological, both floods comparable?

The Center for Public Meteorology Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) Mulyono Prabowo said that the views of the rainfall, the rainfall is actually lower in January 2013 than in January-February 2007.

For today's rainfall, for example, Mulyono said, "low-intensity rainfall some areas, such as in Parung only 20 mm. While in other areas of high rainfall, such Kedoya Cengkareng 125 mm and 103 mm."

Meanwhile, two days ago, the rainfall in the Greater Jakarta area average over the past two days of 40-100 mm. Highest rainfall occurred in Puncak and Bogor at 100 mm, while in Cengkareng 80 mm. For comparison, the rainfall in 2007 and reached 340 mm.

From the extent of the rains, floods in 2007 and 2013 are different. Mulyono said, "At this time, rainfall occurs evenly in Greater Jakarta. Thus, large volumes of water. Years 2007, rainfall is concentrated in one area."

Mulyono said, flooding is not only triggered by meteorological factors, but also the arrangement of space, siltation of rivers, and so on. So, flooding can not necessarily associated with the weather.
