Brazilian President was not willing to comment on requests for asylum Snowden

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, Wednesday (18/12), said he "has no right to comment on the" request for political asylum Edward Snowden.

In a meeting with reporters at the Presidential Palace in the capital of Brazil, Brasilia, Rousseff said Snowden has not formally filed a request for asylum.

"I do not fully have the right to comment on something that has not been sent. And moreover, I do not interpret the letter, it was not my job," said Rousseff.

"No one sent to us, how can I comment?" Rousseff asked back, Xinhua reported.

Snowden sent an open letter to "the people of Brazil" on Tuesday (17/12), to declare he would welcome a permanent asylum in Brazil.

In the letter released by the Brazilian newspaper - Folha de Sao Paulo, Snowden did not directly ask for asylum.

However, he offered to help Brazil investigate the magnitude of the NSA spying against the South American country, and says he needs the security of a permanent asylum for doing it.

Brazilian Foreign Ministry confirmed the ministry has not received an official request for asylum, so can not comment on the matter.

In connection with the issuance of the letter, supporting online Snowden has organized an effort to collect signatures in order to suppress Rousseff to accept the request for asylum.

After escaping from the U.S. and landed at Moscow airport in July, former U.S. intelligence workers - who become whistleblowers concerning global espionage NSA - were given temporary asylum by Russia.
