British director Gareth Edwards , who made a recent Godzilla movie , set to be directed Star Wars in other forms such as Walt Disney Co. confirmed .
The film is yet to be named will come with the new Star Wars trilogy in which the first part will be directed by JJ Abrams .
Author Gary Whitta , who wrote the script of The Book of Eli in 2010 , will write the screenplay for the film Edwards .
The film is scheduled to be released on December 16, 2016 .
Edwards said in a statement : " Since I saw Star Wars Click I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - join the Rebel Alliance !
" I could not be more excited and honored to work on this project . "
Whitta also expresses his likes and says " the opportunity to contribute " is " truly a dream come true " .
Star Wars trilogy was first made in 1977, 1980 with The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in 1983 by George Lucas .
