Clashes continued raging near Damascus


Clashes between rebels and Syrian soldiers continued to rage on Monday ( 2/12 ) in the region of Al - Qalamoun and areas near Damascus in the middle of a political effort to pass the second Geneva peace conference on Syria .

Syrian military operations against insurgents increase in many regions across the country yesterday , killing dozens of people and eliminate " terrorist group " , the official Syrian news agency , SANA , quoted by Xinhua .

Al - Qalamoun in the northern suburbs of Damascus , the Syrian military to make real progress in the small town Nabek , after seizing Qara and Deir Attieh Al - Qalamoun .

Al - Qalamoun which is north of Damascus near the Lebanese border and it is an important area . With the hang of it , the military will be able to secure the international road linking Damascus with the Syrian province of Homs in the Central and other provinces in the north and cut insurgent supply lines from neighboring Lebanon .

The Syrian military has recently launched a major offensive to wrest from the hands of Al - Qalamoun rebels , but rebels have invaded many parts of the small town Maaloula located 65 kilometers north-east of Damascus .

Maaloula , which is known as one of the three places where the ancient language of Western Aramaic is still used , has its own interests as a small town it is seen as one of the oldest Christian areas in Syria .

The government in Damascus last week warned of militant action fanatics for targeting Christian areas in Damascus by using mortar bombs and launch attacks to a small town outside Damascus amid reports that rebels had damaged places of worship and religious emblems .
