Iran opposes presence of foreign troops


 Iranian President Hassan Rouhani , Sunday ( 8/12 ) , said his country opposes presence of foreign troops in the region .

"The Islamic Republic of Iran against the presence of any foreign forces in the region anywhere in the Middle East and the Gulf , " Rouhani said in a meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai , who is visiting in the capital of Iran , Tehran .

" We are concerned with the tensions that continue to occur due to the presence of foreign troops and believe all foreign forces must leave the region , " Xinhua reported Rouhani said . He added , " Afghanistan Security must be provided by the people of Afghanistan . "

Statement of the President of Iran issued when Afghanistan and the United States prepares to sign the Bilateral Security Agreement ( BSA ) in order to facilitate the presence of a limited number of U.S. forces in Afghanistan , after the withdrawal of NATO-led forces from the country in 2014 .

Meanwhile , Karzai congratulated the Iranian president about the nuclear agreement reached by Iran and world powers in Geneva , Switzerland , in November . Karzai said that Iran and Afghanistan have a lot of the same interests .

According to ISNA , Rouhani and Karzai issued a joint statement while the Foreign Ministry of Iran and Afghanistan were given the task to prepare the document Comprehensive Agreement on Friendship Cooperation between the two countries .

The deal will include the interests of Iran and Afghanistan in a long time preparing for peace and security in the region , the report said .

" We will start talks for signing of the agreement in the near future and I am sure the people of Afghanistan would welcome this agreement , " said Karzai was quoted as saying .

The Afghan president arrived in Tehran on Sunday to hold important talks with Rouhani and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad - Javad Zarif .
