Although an international agreement on climate is still unclear , African countries are moving towards unity strategy .

Africa has experienced more extreme climatic conditions in recent years with increasing global temperatures .

Dr . Joseph Mukabana said the African continent is at the forefront in addressing climate change .

He said , this has resulted in the design - called - Strategic Implementation Plan of the Integrated Meteorological Africa .

" Africa is the continent most vulnerable to climate change . Among the 48 least developed countries , 33 are in Africa . So priority in Africa is adapt to climate change . So it must adapt or die of envy , "said Mukabana .

Mukabana is a regional director for Africa and the Less Developed Countries in the World Meteorological Organization . He says ,
circumstances and climate change are far from having an impact on the African continent .

" The ice in the polar regions melt , so that sea level rise and small islands , of course threatened to sink , as well as coastal areas are low-lying . Thus , when an estimated between 25 to 50 years from now , the coastal regions are low-lying may be sinking , and it will include areas that are now inhabited , "said Mukabana .

According to him , it is important to protect the coastline of Africa .

" The destruction of coastal areas also have an impact on the residents of the coastal areas . For example , in some areas , mangrove forests and mangrove forests cut down very well for the coastal environment . The rocks also eroded and destroyed . If the size of the coral reefs can form a natural defense , in case of a tsunami , for example . So if we destroy the coastal region , it will have an impact on humans , "said Mukabana .

While sea-level rise is one of the problems related to climate change , the lack of rain in some areas raises other problems , namely more frequent drought .

To address the threat of climate change in Africa , the World Meteorological Organization and the Commission of the African Union or the African Union Commission held a meeting in Nairobi in 2010 . Nearly 0 ministers from countries across the continent are present .VOA
