Koi fish into the one commodity that has the potential to successfully contribute to foreign exchange Rp178 billion for the year 2012 .
Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sharif C. Sutarjo in a press release received here on Sunday , said ornamental fish is a commodity that potentially contribute to foreign exchange .
He said Indonesian ornamental fish export in 2012 reached 58 million U.S. dollars . Of these koi fish exports accounted for approximately $ 19 million or Rp178 billion .
According to him , ornamental fish exports in 2013 are expected to increase by 20 percent or increase to approximately 70 million U.S. dollars , or about Rp764 billion compared to 2012 .
For the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries ( MMAF ) , he added , will continue to spur koi Indonesian farmers to improve the quality in order to go international . One way that an exhibition of such activities and contests 10th All Indonesia Koi Show 2013 organized by the Association of Indonesian Koi Lovers ( APKI ) .
Koi contest activities at regional and national level can motivate local farmers to improve the quality of the koi .
