U.S. companies need to think more globally

U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker said Wednesday that the Obama administration's national initiative to double U.S. exports in five years is not just about numbers , but about changing the mindset of the people towards global trade .

" We need to change the DNA of the way business thinks about the market , " he said at an event sponsored by the Atlantic , an American magazine founded in 1857 in Boston told Reuters .

Responding to a question about whether U.S. President Barack Obama's goal to double U.S. exports by 2015 can be achieved , Pritzker said the initiatives announced by the President in 2010 , not to be understood only as numbers , but as an effort to improve the competitiveness of U.S. companies in the whole world , because about 95 percent of customers are outside the United States .

He noted that the 10 million workers in the United States is now supported by exports , 1.3 million of whom have been made ​​since 2009 . In this sense , the goal of doubling exports is " good for American workers and good for U.S. companies . "

Pritzker stressed that the president 's economic agenda is in line with the business community , whether it is about trade and investment , immigration reform or corporate tax reform .

He also outlines the department's priorities , promised that it would focus its next work on trade and investment , innovation and the availability of data .
