 The UN General Assembly Crimea State Referendum Invalid

The UN General Assembly on Thursday ( 27/3 ) passed a resolution stating that the referendum to join the Russian Crimea invalid .

The UN General Assembly has passed a resolution stating that the referendum to join the Russian Crimea invalid and refuse to acknowledge the takeover of Russia over the Crimea peninsula .

Meanwhile , in Washington on Thursday ( 27/3 ) , Congress and the U.S. Senate approved a package valued at $ 1 billion for Ukraine .

Prior to the vote of the General Assembly , Foreign Minister of Ukraine , Andriy Deshchytsia , said Russia is " cruel trampling " the territorial integrity of Ukraine with the annexed Crimea .

Russian Ambassador to the UN , Vitaly Churkin , called for rejection of the resolution , and said it was " contrary to the actual situation . " Churkin said the Crimean population have voiced their right to self-determination and want to join Russia .
