Venezuelan air force generals arrested three suspected of conspiring to stage a coup against the leftist government , President Nicolas Maduro said Tuesday.
Maduro told the foreign ministers of South America in a meeting that three jenederal it , which did not mention their identities , have been in contact with the opposition and " work against the legitimate government , " AFP reported .
" This group has a direct relationship with the arrested sectors of the opposition and they say that this week is a decisive week , " said Maduro .
He said the generals have been tried in military court , adding that the conspiracy was discovered because of a number of other officers claimed they were recruited .
The disclosure came amid a government crackdown against opponents of Maduro after street protests that lasted for several weeks . At least 34 people died in the action .
On Monday , the Chairman of the National Assembly Diosdado Cabello announced a renowned opposition deputy , Maria Corina Machado , lost his seat and immunity as an MP , and can be arrested any time .
At a press conference in Lima , Machado said he would return to Caracas on Wednesday , adding she feared arrest when it arrives .
He said he returned " because my representatives and I will go to Venezuela to continue to support the action in the streets tirelessly until we achieve democracy and freedom . "
Machado angry with the government to go to the Organization of American States ( OAS ) as guests of Panama to discuss the crisis in Venezuela .
Vice Panama to the OAS , Arturo Vallarino , said the move to get rid of the chair Machado was a " proof of intentional acts performed Venezuela . "
Last week , two opposition mayor arrested , and a well-known opposition leader was jailed for a month with inciting violence .
