Scientists in the U.S. say they discovered a new planet with a diameter more than twice that of Earth .
The new planet called " mega - Earth " is called Kepler - 10c , because it has a mass of 17 times the weight of the Earth .

The astronomers said they were surprised because the planet is larger and more concentrated it can remain solid without losing the atmosphere .

The large size of the planet also shows the planet has a larger surface and the possibility of some form of life .
Kepler - 10c is estimated that more than two -fold older than the Earth or about 11 billion years .

" The best way to call it is something greater than ' super - Earth , so how about Earth - mega , " said Professor Dimitar Sasselov of the center of astrophysics , Harvard - Smitshonian Centre for Astrophysics .
He also mentions the planet as ' Godzillanya Earth . '
