Lt. Gen. John Lorimer told the BBC that the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan "different."

The former head of the British army, Lord Richards, has warned that the battle could be repeated in Afghanistan.

'The comparison is not helpful'
Lt. Lorimer who is deputy head of the Nato-led mission, one more week to finalize his assignment in Afghanistan.

He said it is confident that the country will be safe after the withdrawal of international forces dna said Afghan security forces have better weapons and better trained to deal with the threat of insurgents than the Iraqi forces.

"I do not feel that the comparisons between Iraq and Afghanistan useful," he said.

"The situation is different, the context is different, I think the important thing about these missions is that international forces are here to train, advise and evaluated the Afghan national security forces ... The Afghans want the international community to remain here."
