Thailand's Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra while voting Sunday morning in a polling station ( TPS ) in Klong Lam Chiak School near his home in the capital, Bangkok .
Thailand general election begins at 08:00 am local time Sunday, amid fears of violence and bloodshed that may occur due to interference of the anti - government protesters .
The voting will last until Sunday at 15:00 , with a total of 93 305 polling stations set up in the 375 electoral districts nationwide to 48.77 million eligible voters .
General Election Commission decided on Saturday night to cancel voting in all polling stations in the district of Lak Si , Bangkok following clashes between pro - government " Red Shirts " and the protesters, killing at least eight people were injured .
Suthep Thaugsuban , the leader of the protesters have called on Sunday for mass action completely paralyze the capital, Bangkok , and prevent all people cast their votes .
He has moved on the streets of Bangkok during the last few days to invite people to join him .
In addition , the delivery of ballot papers to some southern provinces have been blocked by protesters .
It remains to be seen whether the country will be able to get through the election and how many voters managed to cast a vote in the middle of the blockade .
Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva earlier said he would not vote on Sunday, and called the elections " unconstitutional . "

Meanwhile it has been announced arrest warrants for three anti - government protesters blocking Thailand early voting on Jan. 26 , including the leader of the People's Democratic Reform Committee ( PDRC ) .
Thailand's Criminal Court has approved arrest warrants Issara Somchai PDRC leader , a man known as " Little Saddam " , and another man who was photographed trying to strangle a man who tried to exercise their rights on January 26 .
