Euro recovered slightly against the dollar
The euro slight " rebound " against the dollar on Monday (Tuesday morning GMT ) , after last week fell sharply , helped by new data showing some unexpected weakness in the U.S. economy .
But the yen strengthened against the euro and the dollar , as global turbulence continues to push the currency traders hunt " safe haven " , AFP reported .
At 22:00 GMT (Tuesday , 5:00 pm ) , the euro rose to 1.3529 dollars , compared with 1.3487 dollars late on Friday.
The dollar fell to 100.94 yen from 102.03 yen , and the euro fell to 136.58 yen from 137.61 yen .
The market took the first hint of the purchasing managers index ( PMI ) for the manufacturing sector in China and Europe .
The fall of PMI China a little over lead concerns contraction territory for the global economy , while a surprise rise in the euro zone helped the euro .
" The dollar index started to decline at the beginning of the London session due to the release of better-than -expected manufacturing PMI data in France , Germany and the euro zone , " said Benjamin Spier at DailyFX .
The sharp decline in the ISM manufacturing PMI for the United States , from 56.5 in December to 51.3 in January , sent through the market , triggering a sell- two percent of stocks on Wall Street .
While some indicators ignore the decline in the U.S. for a spate of bad weather , others say it underscores the unexpected weakness in the economy , coming after a bad report on car sales , employment and housing .
" There may be a silver lining : ISM survey respondents reported that bad weather during January is an obstacle to growth , " said Christopher Vecchio , currency analyst at DailyFX .
The British pound fell to 1.6309 dollars from 1.6435 dollars , while the dollar weakened to 0.9005 Swiss francs from 0.9060 francs .
