Four killed in attack in southern Thailand



 Three soldiers and a civil servant who was on his way setting up polling ( polling place ) was killed in an ambush by insurgents in southern Thailand on Saturday night .


According to authorities , four people were killed by their vehicle hit a mine and fired on insurgents in Pattani , one of three restive provinces .


Already a decade of insurgency occurred in three provinces bordering Malaysia .


The other five , including three soldiers , wounded in the attack , said District Police Khok Pho .


" A deputy district chief was killed in a bomb attack and shooting as he led the army set up polling stations , " said Puchong Nutrawong , general secretary of the Election Commission of Thailand .


"I think the incident was not related to the election , but rather part of a riot ( ongoing ) in the south , " he added .


The conflict between the government and rebels who want a large autonomy is already claimed the lives of more than 5,900 people in a decade .
