Seven killed by avalanches in Japan

Seven skiers and mountain climbers were killed by an avalanche on Saturday in Norht snowy Alps mountain range in Toyama Prefecture, Central Japan, local press reported.

Avalanche buried skiers and mountaineers that at around 10:50 pm local time at the Regional Masagodake, which has an altitude of 2,861 meters above sea level, the report said, as quoted by Xinhua - Reuters monitored here on Saturday night.

He added that seven people were immediately taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital but they all died.

Rescue workers and local police are still looking for others who may be buried in the avalanche, the report said.
