A Syrian government minister survived an attack directed toward his car on Saturday , said media .
But the minister's driver died in the attack .
El Ikhbariya television station said the car Ali Haidar , minister for national reconciliation , the target of the attack when the car passes a highway in the province of Tartus - the base of President Bashar al - Assad .
The television gave no further details about how the attack happened .
Haidar is a part of , that by the Assad government calls " patriotic opposition " - political groups that consider themselves rivals led by the Baath Party president . But the group did not support the 30 -month uprising against his government .

Murder and kidnapping became commonplace which has been increasing since the uprising began in March 2011 . The uprising began with protests of the people and increased to a civil war that has killed more than 100,000 people , according to Reuters .
