Philippine troops attack rebels, 53 killed

A total of 53 people were killed in the week-long battle between the Philippine army with militants, a military official said Friday.

Three of the 53 people killed were soldiers recruited children Moro rebels.

Regional military spokesman Col. Dickson Hermoso said the attack on the members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Fighters (BIFF) on the island of Mindanao, southern Philippines led to 52 militants were killed, including children and a soldier.

"They recruit children to serve as fighters with uniforms and given firearms. When we catch them, we can not distinguish whether they are children or not," he said, as reported by AFP.
